Small by design — you empty it every time, so nothing sits and stews.

Part of the pot, not a basket. Water moves freely around the leaves.

Set at a right angle to the spout, so you pour with a turn of the wrist.

How to Use
a Kyusu Like a Pro

A kyusu is built for short, repeated infusions rather than one long steep. Warm it, fill it only part way, and pour it out completely every time — the leaves stay in the pot and the same measure will give you two or three cups.

Warm the Pot

Rinse with hot water, then tip it out.
Add the tea leaves to the teapot

Add the Leaves

5 g of loose leaf, straight into the pot.
Let the tea steep in the teapot

Pour and Steep

150 ml at around 70 °C, 1 to 2 minutes.
Pour the tea from the teapot into the cup

Pour to the Last Drop

Empty it completely, alternating between cups.

We ship from warehouses in the US, the EU and Japan — whichever is closest to you. US and EU orders arrive in 4–12 business days; the handful of countries served from Japan take around 10. Business days count from dispatch rather than from when you order, and exclude weekends and public holidays. You'll get a tracking number by email the moment your parcel leaves the warehouse.

We only buy from fields grown without pesticides or chemicals. We ask each farmer directly how they manage their land, visit the plantation and processing facility ourselves, taste every harvest before committing, and check that the biodiversity around the fields is alive. Small family farms don't always carry paperwork — so we verify it in person instead.

Japanese green tea covers an enormous range, and choosing online isn't easy. If you've tried yours and it isn't for you, email info@nioteas.com within 30 days with your order number and a line on what you didn't enjoy. We'll send a different tea of equal or lower value, free. Nothing to post back — keep it, share it, or try brewing it cooler. Once per order.

Email info@nioteas.com within 30 days with your order number and a photo. We'll approve it, cover the return postage with a prepaid label or a reimbursement, and refund you — no restocking fee. Refunds go to your original payment method within 2 business days of the return reaching us; your bank may take another 5–20 to show it.

Unopened items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days. Tea is sealed for hygiene, so opened packs can't come back — but the swap above covers exactly that situation. Return postage is yours unless the item arrived damaged, defective or incorrect.

Orders to the US and EU ship domestically from our local warehouse, so there's no customs charge and no duty. A small number of destinations are served from our Japan warehouse, where your own customs authority may apply import duty, VAT or a carrier handling fee on delivery. Those are set by your country, not by us. Ask before you order and we'll help you check.

Customer video review of Red Japanese Clay Teapot

I finally tested my new red kyusu in today’s brew, and wow... this little teapot performs!!! I used it to prepare the Sencha Yamaga no Sato, and the result was a cup that tasted like pure morning sunshine. The clay kept the temperature beautifully stable, the pour was buttery smooth, and the tea opened up with such a gentle sweetness. If you want to see the full brew in action, check out the video on my Instagram profile @caffeinatedktea

Got my kyusu in and I have to say its perfect. I made some gyokuro and some Sencha in it. The pour was superb. Heat retention was excellent. This kyusu is glazed and can be used for pretty much any japanese tea. This one is perfect for all beginners and tea veterans alike. This one is a great edition for anyone's tea needs.

La mia nuova kyusu rossa… che capolavoro! The clay, the color, the shape, everything feels so warm and full of character. Brewing sencha or gyokuro in it is pure joy. The pour is smooth like a Vespa ride through Roma, and the clay gives the tea that little extra roundness we all chase as TeaHeads. Lovely little tea pot that takes up the joy of drinking the tea up a notch. The only thing I have found is that it is is bit of a pain to clean the tea out as it can get stuck to and around the filter. Still a cute little teapot though!

Sits right alongside my brown kyusu, purple hagi yaki, and Yixing pots. The red clay pot is a perfect everyday brewer: the glaze keeps it neutral and it brews the perfect amount for my 10 ounce mug. I love it!

Customer video review of Red Japanese Clay Teapot

Honestly most of the reviews here look pretty fake, with perfect interpunction and fancy composition, and the wares are suspiciously cheap, considering they are imported from Japan, and some review photos have a different kyusu pictured… but DAMN, that is real good quality stuff. I’ll leave the info that I wanted to get, but couldn’t find: - The lid doesn’t leak, it’s got good seal - The flow is magnificent (as you can see on the video) - When covering the hole, it ALMOST stops the flow (completely only if there’s not much liquid inside) - The water doesn’t go down the tip when pouring, and it cuts off perfectly when stopping GOOD STUFF

I recently purchased this lovely red Japanese clay Kyusu teapot from Nio Teas, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. This teapot is a stunning blend of traditional craftsmanship and functional elegance. The quality of the clay is exceptional. It retains heat well, allowing the tea to steep perfectly every time. I have noticed a significant improvement in the taste of my green tea; the natural minerals in the clay seem to enhance the flavor profile, making each sip a delightful experience.

In this hectic world we live in, it can be hard to see the good. Let me tell you the ladies and gentlemen at NIO are the good! They don’t only provide one of the best green teas and tea pots on the market, but they are also kind. Unfortunately, my teapot was dropped as soon as I took it out of the box, and without hesitation, they sent me a new one! This was completely my fault, but they didn’t concern themselves with that! Bravo NIO TEAS!

Red Japanese Clay Teapot

It’s an absolutely amazing teapot. Its glaze is nice so u can use multiple teas and the price is also very good. I could go on and on but I need to give a warning BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WITH IT mine shattered with just a small fall wich I was pretty upset about but that was my fault so yeah anyways byeeeeee

Red Japanese Clay Teapot

Beautiful tea pot with built in filter. Functions well, smaller than I imagined but perfect for a large cup of tea.

Red Japanese Clay Teapot

It’s perfect!! I use this everyday multiple times a day and it’s so easy to clean very functional and exactly what I need. The quality for the price is unmatched.

Red Japanese Clay Teapot

Beautiful little teapot. It’s a lovely color, and is an easy vessel from which to pour. I wouldn’t mind if it were a little bit larger.

Red Japanese Clay Teapot

Just received it and I’m already excited to experience it 🤍
